In special elections earlier this month in Virginia, Democratic state Rep. Kannan Srinivasan defeated Republican Tumay Harding for an open seat in the state Senate, and Democrat JJ Singh beat Republican Ram Venkatachalam for an open seat in the state House. With these victories, Democrats kept a 21-19 majority in the state Senate and a 51-49 majority in the House. (Republicans also held a state Senate seat, with Luther Cifers defeating Jack Trammell.)
